Carolyn Gorny-Kopkowski '58 entered the Benedictine Sisters of Erie four years after graduating from St. Benedict Academy. Her interview is a sixty-plus year review of the life of the Benedictine sisters and their evolution from a semi-cloistered community to prophets for peace and justice. "The beginnings of this community wasn't an easy time. The sisters had no food. You know, the sisters were dying of TB. It was tough times that I read about, but these are tough times, too. Look at the news. And if I'm a committed person, this is my world. How do I face those tough times? And even at my age, even with my low energy, I'm not done yet... I believe we're in a very, very important time in the history of the Erie Benedictines, and in ten years, even, we're not going to look like we look now. And that doesn't frighten me. I may not be here, but I'll tell you, it doesn't frighten me...that's where hope is for the Erie Benedictines."
