Mary Dreisbach Olowin '66 tells interviewer Jenn Bokoch Gillett, “But I could say that what the Benedictines helped form in me in those four years at St. Benedict's was the ideal of social justice. I think I got that, and it came from my mother as well....It's important to speak up, and it's taken me such a long time in my life to get away from just kind of nodding, implying agreement with people and speaking up for what I think....When I moved into my apartment, I very deliberately chose a downtown apartment rather than a retired senior-only enclave because I did not want to be surrounded by only people my age. My neighbors across the hall are in their thirties....And it really helps me not just get locked into the ideas that I grew up with, and be more open to the changes that are happening and not think that every change is a bad thing."
